An inspirational Pre-Seed success story from USA
30/04/2009 by admin.
Just read this inspirational Pre-Seed success story on ING fertility website, and wanted to share it with you
Dear Dr. E, I have been having infertility issues for the past 12 years which has never been diagnosed as something specifically wrong, just “unexplained infertility.” My darling son was born in 2004 on my third try at IVF, when I was 39 years old. When he turned 1, my husband & I started trying for a second. I became pregnant on my own (for the first time in my life!) but unfortunately had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. I lost confidence that I could do it on my own again, so I started doing IVF’s once more. After 5 rounds & 20 good embryos inserted with none of them implanting, I gave up. I was researching adoption options for a few months & even made an appointment to see an adoption lawyer when a friend of mine told me about Preseed in November, 2008. Two of her other friends who had spent years TTC had recently become pregnant using Preseed. After all the money I had spent on IVF, I figured why not give this inexpensive (and MUCH more fun sounding) option a try?
I bought a package and only used two of the applicators the first month of trying, December 2008. I didn’t even know I was pregnant until 6 weeks in because it didn’t even occur to me that it might have worked so soon! I am now 20 weeks pregnant with a daughter and excited beyond belief. Did I mention that I am now 44?! It’s truly a miracle! I gave the remainder of the first box of Preseed to a friend who’s TTC and the second box I had bought to another friend and hope that if they conceive while using it, we can call ourselves “The Sisterhood of the Travelling Lubricant”!!!
My husband & I cannot possibly thank you enough for your miraculous product which we are telling everyone about. You have brought so much joy into our lives. We’re so grateful that we heard about your product and only wish we had heard about it earlier!) Now I want to ask my IVF doc for a refund for those 5 insanely expensive IVF’s!
With Great Appreciation, D F
P.S. My husband is so impressed with your results, he’s dying to buy stock in your company!

Does you career affect your fertility ?
28/04/2009 by admin.
Just read this article online at Timesonline fertility file
Recent research suggests a superwoman lifestyle can affect hormones and even body shape, damaging a woman’s chances of having a baby
Go-getting women with highpowered jobs and salaries to match might appear to have it all. But results of a new study suggest that, unwittingly, these twenty and thirtysomethings are reducing their chances of having children by doggedly pursuing demanding careers

Do you use a lubricant for sex-if so which one and is it sperm friendly ?
27/04/2009 by admin.
Do you know, your choice of lubricant could be affecting your chances of conceiving ?
Many popular sex lubricants including saliva can reduce your chances of conceiving by intefering with sperm function & motility.
In the last few years a new range of sex lubricants have been developed to be fertility friendly & not to interfere with sperm function & motility. These sperm friendly or fertility lubricants are designed to be used by couples trying to conceive.
These fertility lubricants come in several formats-some are available in intra vaginal applicators for internal use, and some in squeezable resealable tubes for external application & foreplay.
Why use a fertility lubricant ?
Simple answer is it makes sex more comfortable and fun, and extended foreplay increases the chances of the woman having an orgasm. It also reduces the risks of injuries caused by friction to both partners which has to be a good thing.
Just think by simply changing the lubricant you use for sex to a sperm friendly one, you could be increasing your chances of conceiving. This is one simple and easy change you can make right now, that can have a huge benefit in enhancing your fertility and increase your chances when you are trying to conceive. If only everything in fertility was so simple

Twins increase risk of postnatal depression
22/04/2009 by admin.
Just read this interesting article in Guardian online about postnatal depression after multiple births ie twins or tripletes etc.
The results are not really that surprising to me having seen my sister in law have two sets of twins. One baby is hard work, imagine having two tiny babies to look after ! My sister in law coped amazingly and did not suffer postnatal depression after either birth. I’m not sure I would have coped as well as she did.
The survey conducted by the Twins and Multiple Births Association showed that mothers of twins or triplets have almost twice the average risk of postnatal depression.
The first enormous stress for my sister in law was that her first set of twins were born very early-and only weighed about 2lbs each. They were in the special care baby unit for a long time and when they came home they were on oxygen which was quite alarming for them and stressful to deal with. They also had all the worries about whether the twins had been harmed by their prematurity. The good news is that both sets of twins are fine, and now are two healthy 7 year and 5 year olds with no sequalae from their prematurity. They are all now at full time school, so things are much easier now than in the early years.
With all this stress in the early days & weeks after their birth it is not surprsing that many mums suffer postnatal depression. Many twins are also born by caesarian (both my sister in laws sets of twins were born by caesarian) which means the mum has this to recover from.
The sleep deprivation with a new baby is always hard, with more than one baby it is multiplied-you just get one to sleep when the other wakes up ! A mum with twins or triplets will need a lot more support and care from family and friends, as well as from healthcare providers.
With the increase in the numbers of people undergoing fertility treatments and many couples leaving it later to start a family, the number of twin pregnancies has increased in recent years.

If you think you may be suffering from postnatal depression talk to your GP or health visitor and get help

Are home births as safe as hospital births ?
22/04/2009 by admin.
‘The largest study of its kind has found that for low-risk women, giving birth at home is as safe as doing so in hospital with a midwife’
The new research is from the Netherlands which has a high rate of home births. The research which was published in the BJOG (British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology) found no difference in death rates of either mothers or babies in 530,000 births.
The safety of home births issue has long been debated both in the UK and abroad.
The new research has been cautiously welcomed by UK obstetricicians but may not be applied universally.

Make the time to fill yourself up
14/04/2009 by admin.
Hi everyone,
Hope you’ve had a good spring/Easter break.
I have had a couple of days at the coast and while I was there I listened to the great John Gray on my ipod. I have all his audio books downloaded from itunes. I love to listen to them on long journeys.
This holiday I have been listening to ‘when mars and venus collide’ which gives great insite into why men and women fall out and how to avoid fights .
A big part of this is not expecting your man to ‘fill you up’. We need to learn how to fill ourselves up and not to expect our partners to do this for us.
There is a list of about 100 ways to do this and they are all fun.
Here are some examples:
- take a long soak in the bath
- talk with girlfriends
- have a manicure or pedicure
- have a facial
- have a massage
- read a good book
I highly recomend the book-a great listen for a long journey

Fertility Forums-are they for me ?
01/04/2009 by admin.
So you are trying to conceive and it is taking longer than you had hoped.
You want to talk to someone about it but all your friends are either pregnant or have kids already, or you feel a little shy talking to them about it.
If you have read the great ‘mars and venus books’ by John Gray, you will know how important it is for us venusians to be able to talk about our problems, and to feel heard. If you have not read the books I highly reccomend them-they are excellent, quite amusing and have helped me understand my man and myself so much better. They are available on itunes as a audio book and I love them-listen to them all the time especially when my dh goes in his cave (you know what I mean girls)
Anyway I digress
Q Where do you go for friendship and support ?
A The fertility forums
What is a fertility forum you may be asking yourself ? Well an online forum is an online community of like minded people with a shared mission, interest, hobby or passion.
In the case of a fertility forum they are all trying to conceive and are nearly always women. I am not sure I have ever seen a man on a fertility forum although there must be some out there. If you go into a car owners forum or a computer techie forum they are nearly all men with one or two women. There are forums for just about anything you can think of-even housework, but that is the subject of a whole other blog.
Lets get back to fertility forums:
There are lots of fertility forums out there and it is just a question of picking the ones that fits you best.
What to look for in a fertility forum (or any forum to be honest):
- plenty of active members (there is nothing worse than being the only one in there-it feels really lonely and sad-I speak from experience here)
- plenty of posts (I personally like chatty forums-I guess thats why I love to blog-lol)
- good listeners in the forum (every forum needs its share of good listeners)
- plenty of problem solvers in your chosen forum is always good (sometimes you just need advice or help-I use a technical support forum for my pc and the guys in there are amazing-they know so much more than me. I have also used a forum a for particular make of car and they diagnosed the problem with my car without me even having to visit a garage and I fixed it myself !! A very proud moment for this dizzy blond)
- it should feel good in there-like a warm cosy blanket-you should feel good after you have been on and feel empathy for the other members
I’m sure there are lots of other things to look for in your chosen forum but these are just the things I look for.
See my blogroll at the side of this blog for links to the UK fertility forums

New Fertility lubricant causing a buzz in the fertility world
01/04/2009 by admin.
A new fertility lubricant is causing a lot of excitement in the fertility world.
The new sperm friendly lube has been developed by Scottish company Burdica.
Information from the Burdica website :
This patent pending formula has undergone several clinical trials comparing the only other fertility lubricant “Pre-Seed” and In-Vitro-Fertilisation medium used in IVF Clinics. During the trials HySeed outperformed both competing products and IVF medium for sperm motility giving “trying to conceive” (TTC) couples a better chance. The lubricant is made using Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a natural molecule (non-animal sourced) already produced in the body. HySeed is odourless and gentle to the touch: couples who have used HySeed report an enjoyable “natural” experience.
